It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our multiple PA Group winner Hattal, whilst being prepared for Abu Dhabi’s most valuable contest, the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown.
At four, in his first season to race, Hattal won both the French and UK Arabian Derby races, concluding with a two-length win in the French Arabian Breeders Challenge Classic – HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup in Toulouse. At five, he won the Prix Carthage (Gr.2 PA) on his reappearance, before winning the first of his two President of the UAE Cup – Coupe d’Europe des Chevaux Arabes at ParisLongchamp. He followed the same path at six, taking his total of Group 1 PA wins to five, along with his two Group 2 PA successes.
Hattal’s sire Mahabb has already produced countless Group performers, including two Kahayla Classic winners, with Manark in 2015 and most recently Deryan in 2021. Hattal’s dam Mizzna needs no introduction. By Akbar, out of the three-time Kahayla Classic winner Alanudd (Unchainedd Melody), Mizzna also won Dubai’s premier race for Arabians in 2008, along with five other Group 1 PA races in the UK and UAE. Mizzna’s progeny frequently distinguish themselves on the racetrack, with several Group performers such as multiple Group winner Ziyadd (Bibi de Carrere) and his full brother Rabbah de Carrere, who is now making his mark as sire with his Group 1 PA winning daughter, Elaf.
In addition to his top-class race record, Hattal was a prime example of HH Sheikh Mansoor’s breeding programme and will be a huge loss to the studbook.
